Quick answer
To blur faces in a photo automatically, open it in the tool above: a face detector running in your browser finds and blurs each face. Click a box to keep a face visible, drag over any face it missed, and download. Detection can miss small, turned or covered faces, so check the whole photo before you share it. Nothing is uploaded.
For web pages
Hide the photos before anyone sees the page
When the faces are on a web page you are about to share, such as a CRM, a team directory or a social feed, Blurr.ing blurs them in the live page. Draw a box over any photo for free, or let Auto Blur hide every image and video on a page, a site or everywhere. The free plan includes one Auto Blur rule.
- Draw a box, select text or click an element. Free and unlimited.
- Screenshots come out with the blurs already in the picture. 5 free, unlimited on Premium.
- Auto Blur, Blur Text and Tab Privacy hide things for you on every page. Try each one free.
Free to install, for Chrome on a computer.
How it works
How to blur faces in a photo
- 1
Open your photo
Drop a photo onto the tool, paste a screenshot with Ctrl+V or Cmd+V, or choose a file. The face detector loads once and runs on your device.
- 2
Let it find the faces
Every face it finds gets a box and is blurred straight away. Click a box, or untick it in the list, to leave that face visible.
- 3
Fix what it missed
Drag across any face the detector missed to blur it by hand. Use Margin to cover hair and ears, and Strength for a heavier blur.
- 4
Download or copy
Download a PNG, JPEG or WebP, or copy the image to your clipboard. The file is created in your browser.
Zoom, Meet and Teams
Blur faces in a meeting screenshot
A screenshot of a video call is a page of other people’s faces, and they did not agree to end up in your slide deck, bug report or social post. Paste the screenshot straight into the tool. Gallery tiles are small, so besides the whole image the tool also scans it in overlapping tiles to find faces that a single pass would miss.
Two things it does not cover: the name label under each tile, and the meeting title or chat. Blur those with the blur image tool, or blur them in the meeting page itself before you take the screenshot.
Before you share a call screenshot
- Blur every face that is not yours, or ask first
- Blur the name labels under the tiles
- Check the chat panel and the meeting title
- Remove the EXIF data if it is a phone photo of a screen
The honest part
When detection misses a face
No face detector finds every face. This one is fast and runs on your device, and it misses faces in three predictable ways. The fix is always the same: drag across the face to blur it by hand.
Small faces
A face only a few dozen pixels wide, in the back row of a group photo or a crowd, can be missed. The tool scans the photo in tiles to catch more of them, but check the edges and the back rows.
Turned or tilted faces
The detector is trained on faces looking roughly toward the camera. A profile, a face looking down at a phone, or one lying sideways may not be found.
Covered faces
Masks, sunglasses, hands, hair and hats hide the features the detector looks for. Partly covered faces are the most common miss.
Blur, pixelate or solid
Which mask to use on a face
All three are painted into the pixels. They differ in how they look and in how much of the face survives. When a face must not be recognised at all, use a high strength and a generous margin, or Solid.
| Mask | Look | Use it for |
|---|---|---|
| Blur (strong) | Soft haze over the face | Photos you post publicly, team pictures, event shots |
| Pixelate (big blocks) | Mosaic | The classic "identity hidden" look, screenshots of video calls |
| Solid | Opaque fill | When nothing of the face may survive, such as a minor or a witness |
Why there is no upload
The faces stay on your device
Most face blur sites send your photo to a server to find the faces. This page downloads the detector once and runs it in your browser instead.
The model runs on your device
The face detector is a small model that runs inside this tab. Your photo is read into a canvas here and never sent to a server.
Self-hosted, no third parties
The detector files are served from blurr.ing itself, not a third-party CDN, and the library’s usage logging is switched off on this page.
Pixels, not layers
The mask is painted into the image itself, and the download is a new file, so the original face is not hiding underneath and the photo’s EXIF data is not carried over.
